Additional Information

The Learn Together Partnership of nine Local Authorities, including Cheshire East, has now confirmed agreed term dates for 2015/16.

The published pattern follows the principles agreed by the Learn Together Partnership over several years, and which were adopted in Cheshire East following consultation with all schools, diocesan bodies, and the public.

Governing Bodies will need in due course to agree which five of the 195 statutory days allocated per school year shall be used for the purpose of professional development for teaching staff.

Setting Term Dates

The Local Authority term dates and principles (detailed below) are mandatory for Community and Voluntary Controlled schools; they are also recommended to the Governing Bodies of Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools and Academies.

Following extensive consultation in the summer of 2011 the following principles were agreed in setting term dates for Cheshire East schools from September 2012 onwards:

  • all terms to start on a Monday (or a Tuesday if so necessitated by a Bank holiday);
  • Autumn half term will always be the last full week in October;
  • Spring half term will always be the third full week in February;
  • the Easter break will always be the first two full weeks in April (regardless of where Easter itself actually falls);
  • Easter will always be observed by school closures on the bank holidays for Good Friday and Easter Monday;
  • the Whitsun half term break will be one week, unless, in the case of primary schools, the Governing Body agrees an additional week; in such cases the summer term will end one week later than for other schools;
  • where a school is open for part of a week to pupils, this will be for a minimum of three school days (to encourage attendance);
  • the five “ INSET ” days are all to be designated by the individual school Governing Body, but there will be no more than two days set consecutively for this purpose.
