Transfer to High School Information Day
Thursday 9th February 2012
Middlewich Community Church
34 - 36 Brooks Lane, Middlewich, CW10 0JG
The event is aimed at parents who are looking towards their
child’s move to secondary school where the child has additional
needs.
At the information day, staff from the Local Authority will be
there to tell you about the procedures to apply for a school place,
the arrangements if your child has a Statement of Special
Educational Needs or receives Individual Pupil Funding (IPF) and
information about transport. We also hope to have a young
person come tell you about their experiences.
A primary school Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)
will tell you about the work schools typically do to prepare
children with additional needs for the move up to secondary
school. A secondary school SENCO will explain how secondary
schools are usually organised, the roles of staff you might need to
talk to, and how you and school might work together to give your
child the best possible start in their new environment.
In addition to the general information there will be specialist
sessions for parents and carers whose children are in:
• Year 5 and have a Statement of Special Educational Needs
(SEN),
• Year 5 or 6 where the school receives IPF to support the
child’s needs
• or are in Year 4 and have a Statement or receives IPF.
As the first presentation is about choosing a school, if you are
the parent/carer of a Year 6 child, you may want to join us at
11.15 am.
The event is free of charge for parents and carers.
Refreshments and a buffet lunch will be provided. The venue
has parking and disability access.
The closing date for bookings is Monday 6th February
2012.

Events that we have run in the past have
included:
Independent Parental Supporters Training
Would you like to make a difference to families whose children
have Special Educational Needs?
PPS is in need of new volunteers to support parents and
carers. Parent Partnership trained helpers are called
Independent Parental Supporters (IPS). They give advice and
support to parents whose children have special educational
needs. An IPS supports parents to make decisions about their
child’s education and enables them to become partners with
professionals. However, the Independent Parental Supporter will not
make decisions for parents. The aim is to provide an impartial
source of independent advice and support.
If you feel you could listen to parents and attend meetings with
them or help parents with paper work, maybe the IPS Training Course
is for you!
We hold Free accredited training courses. The
courses will run for twelve weeks, with one training session per
week at 10.00am -1.00pm. There will be an optional tutorial week at
half term.
The next course will start in the Summer 2012 term. If
you would like more information about becoming an IPS please
contact us for an information pack.
If you want any further information about the course, download
the IPS training flyer
(PDF, 838KB) or do not hesitate to call the Parent Partnership
office and one of our members of staff will be pleased to
talk to you.
Please visit the how to become a volunteer page to find out
what the training is like.
Transfer to High School Information day
Thursday 9th February 2012 at Middlewich Community Church
Each year Cheshire East Parent Partnership runs a Transfer
to High School information day for parents, of children with
SEN in year 4, 5 or 6.
Transition to the Adult World
If you have a child who is in year 9 and has a statement of
Special Educational Needs (SEN), your child will be having a
transition review within this school year. The transition review is
the name given to the year 9 annual review. It will help you and
your child look to the future and start to consider what your child
will do after year 11.
The school SENCO or Headteacher will lead the meeting, a Personal
Adviser from Connexions should also attend the review. Your views
and those of your child are very important and after the review a
transition plan will be written up using all the information and
advice received at the meeting. This is only the start of the
process and the plan will be revisited in year 10 and year
11.
The Parent Partnership Service has created a Transition Review Pack
which can be viewed on this website or you can request a printed
copy from us. In the pack we have included leaflets and information
which we feel may be useful to you.
