School Transport Consultation
Between 25th March and 20th
May 2011 Cheshire East Council consulted on a number of proposed
changes to the Home to School Transport and the Complex and Special
Needs Transport Policies. The key areas of change were around:
- Denominational transport
- Post-16 transport
- The post-16 element of the Complex and
Special Needs Policy
The purpose of the consultation was to
establish the impact these proposed changes would have across
Cheshire East if implemented.
The Council received a significant number of
responses to the consultation from stakeholders – over 220 attended
public ‘drop-in’ sessions, 900 completed the questionnaire and over
180 letters and emails, along with 2 petitions, were received.
The information gathered from the consultation
was presented to meetings of the Children and Families Scrutiny
Committee on
31st May and
20th June before being considered by the Council’s
Cabinet on
4th July.
At the Cabinet meeting of 4th July
2011, a decision was made to implement an inflationary increase in
charges of 5% for denominational and post-16 transport. The
decision was made to postpone all other proposed changes for a
year. During this period all available options will be
thoroughly investigated with the assistance of the Council’s
Scrutiny Committees, taking due consideration of the need to
continue to provide a stable education system.
Updates will be included on this page in due
course.
