Primary
School Admissions
You might think we automatically know which children will be
starting school for the first time – but we don’t. Families are
moving in and out of Cheshire East all the time. Or, you may think
that because you have an older child already at school you will not
need to apply now for your younger child – this is not the
case!
It is important to note that the application process
begins in the September 12 months before your child is due to start
school.
The law states that children must start their education at the
beginning of the term after their 5th birthday.
However, under the Council's policy children may start
earlier, as any child reaching the age of five between 1
September and 31 August may be admitted to school on the first day
of the autumn term in September. Admission can be deferred until
January, if preferred, but applications for both intakes take place
at the same time.

We always advise that you refer to our information booklets for more information about
the process before completing your application for a school
place.
As applications are prioritised on the basis of determined admission arrangements, you are
advised to read the arrangements relevant to your preferred schools
and to consider any objections
submitted to the Schools Adjudicator.
