Adult Learners’ Week (ALW) is an annual event that takes place every May. It will be taking place this year from the 12th to the 18th May

Cheshire East Lifelong Learning commission local organisations to offer new and exciting learning opportunities to their communities whilst marketing the learning they deliver outside the event.

Each year hundreds of events are held across the country to celebrate Adult Learners’ Week. There different themes to give you ideas for your activities. National and local events throughout the week include Cultural Diversity Weekend (12 – 13 May), Learning at Work Day (17 May), and Digital Day, which complements Silver Surfers' Day (18th May).

Organise your own Adult Learners' Week events using the free resources from the Adult Learners' Week Website You can also access wider activities via the National Adult Learners Week Website.

What events are taking place

Please note that you may need to book in advance for these events. To find out more information or to book a ticket  please contact the library holding the event.

Alsager

  • Trees Walk & Talk with the Countryside Ranger on Wednesday 16th May at 9.30am.
  • Interpreting Local Photographs with Linda Clarke from Cheshire Archives & Local Studies on Thursday 17th May at 10-11.30am. £5.00

Bollington

Card Making on Tuesday 15th May at 10.30am -12 noon and Crystal Healing at 2-3.30pm.
Flower Arranging on Wednesday 16th May at 2.15 - 4pm.

Congleton

  • IT Buddy on Monday 14th May at 10-11.30am and Ancestry taster session at 3.30-5pm.
  • Ancestry taster session on Tuesday 15th May at 2-3.30pm.
  • IT Buddy on Thursday 17th May at 5-6.30pm.
  • Indian Head Massage on Friday 18th May with Liz O'Keefe from 10am until 3pm. Just drop in.
  • Ebay taster session on Friday 18th May at 2-3pm.

Handforth

  • IT taster sessions throughout the week. Choose from Beginners IT, Internet or Email

Holmes Chapel

During the week there will be drop-in sessions for Holmes Chapel U3A and a new local Arts Group.

  • Cranford Quilters on Monday 14th May at 10-12 noon and Down to earth cookery demos at 2, 3 and 4pm.
  • Cycle Knutsford display on Tuesday 15th May from 10-4pm.
  • Painting for pleasure on Wednesday 16th May from 9.30-12.45pm.
  • Ancestry taster session on Thursday 17th May at 10-11 and 11.12pm and African drumming at 3-4pm.
  • Interpreting local photographs on Friday 18th May with Cheshire Archives & Local Studies at 2-3pm.

Macclesfield

  • Family History for Free on Monday 14th May with Linda Clarke from Cheshire Archives & Local Studies at 2pm. Also a display by Macclesfield Rural U3A and Art Exhibition until Friday 18th May.
  • U3A Chamber Music Group on Tuesday 15th May at 2-3.30pm.
  • Digital Photography on Wednesday 16th and Wednesday 23rd May at 10-12.00pm.

Middlewich

  • Recycling in a large supermarket talk on Tuesday 15th May at 2:30 -3:15pm.
  • Healthy Eating Talk on Thursday 17th May 2:30 - 3:30pm - including nibbles to sample!
  • Computer taster sessions on Friday 18th May at 10-10.45am and 11.30- 12.15pm.

Poynton

  • Talk about Lyme Park on Tuesday 15th May at 2-3pm with volunteer of 15 years, Bryan Goodwin.
  • Beginners Guide to Ancestry on Thursday 17th May at 2-3pm or 3.30-4pm. Census and Certificates on Friday 18th May at 10-12pm.

Sandbach

  • Indian Dancing for Adults and children & Sari wrapping demo, on Friday 11th May 11.30am-12.00 pm (Drop-in)
  • Guitar taster session on Monday 14th May at 2-3pm.
  • Zumba 'GOLD' on Tuesday 15th May at 10.00am and U3A French at 3.30pm.

Wilmslow

  • Ancestry Taster Sessions on Monday 14th May at 2-3.30pm or 3.30-5pm.
  • Babysign Taster Session on Tuesday 15th May at 10.30-11.30am.
  • Healthy Life Taster Session on Friday 18th May with Age UK at 10.30-11.30am and Ancestry Taster Sessions at 2-3.30pm.
  • Local History Fair on Saturday 19th May at 10-12pm. Exhibitions from The Romany Society, Alderley History Group, Cheshire Gardens Trust, Wilmslow Community Archaeology and The Wilmslow Historical Society. There will also be a talk by Lisa Greenhalgh, Cheshire Archives and Local Studies, on using Newspapers for Local and Family History at 10.30-11.30am.
