Student Finance

Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester have a local authority shared Student Finance service which processes student applications and calculates entitlement to support for continuing students in those authorities.

All new students entering Higher Education in the 2009/10 academic year should apply for Student Finance through the Directgov website.

• Education Maintenance Allowances - EMA has been extended to those young people on an LSC-funded E2E (Entry to Employment) course or taking a learning programme that leads to an apprenticeship.

• Sixth Form Access Grants - The Council will offer a grant to a school sixth form student if the family has a qualifying low income but, for a personal or technical reason, they are not eligible for an EMA
