Crewe Community Governance Review
On 30th March 2009 Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council received
a petition which called for a Community Governance Review and
identified three recommendations arising from a Review:
- That a new parish be constituted under Section 87 of the Local
Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007
- That the new parish should have a council to be known as Crewe
Town Council.
- That the area to which the review is to relate is the whole of
the Electoral Wards of Coppenhall, Delamere, Grosvenor, Maw Green,
St Johns, Valley and Waldron; and those parts of the following
Electoral Wards which do not already fall into an existing
parish: Alexandra, Leighton, St Barnabas, Wistaston
Green.
The power to take decisions about matters such as the creation
of parishes and their electoral arrangements is the responsibility
of Councils such as Cheshire East.
Cheshire East Council can, therefore, decide whether to give
effect to the recommendations made arising from the Community
Governance Review, provided it takes the views of local people into
account.
At the Council meeting on 25 January
2009 having taken into account consultation and having
regard to the need to ensure that Community Governance within the
area reflected the identities and interests of the Community,
and was effective and convenient, the Council reaffirmed the
draft recommendation of Council of the 15 October 2009 to accept
the vote of the people of Crewe and to reject the notion of a
Town Council for Crewe at this time.

Have Your Say - Crewe Community Governance Review
Following a decision by Cheshire East Council, a second
Community Governance Review will be conducted in Crewe. This review
will consider options for how this area should be governed in the
future, which could include one or more town council/ parish
councils; Area Committees; Neighbourhood Management; Tenant
Management / Residents Associations; or Community
Forums.
The consultation with key stakeholders will
begin in early November, and shortly after this stage a postal
voting paper and leaflet will be posted out to every householder in
the area explaining the Review and the various options being
considered.
