Crewe Community Governance Review
Cheshire East Council has committed to a programme of
transferring services and assets to a more local level, that best
reflects local needs and aspirations. Where one exists, those
services may well be passed down to Parish/Town Councils as they
are, arguably, the most local form of community governance. Because
Crewe does not have a Parish/Town Council, Cheshire East Council
feels that it is appropriate to re-consider the governance
arrangements for Crewe and put in place an arrangement that best
reflects the needs of local people.
What Happens Next
We have now completed the first stage of consultation with
community groups and residents in the unparished area of Crewe. The
feedback we received indicated a strong majority in favour of a
Town Council for Crewe.
As a result of this consultation, there is now an opportunity
for all residents in the affected wards to have a say on the future
governance arrangements for Crewe. From 1st February, all
households in the affected wards will receive a ballot paper asking
them to vote whether they would like a single Town Council for
Crewe – yes or no.
There are three simple steps to complete and return your ballot
paper:
- Step One: On the enclosed voting paper answer the question “Do
you want a single Town Council for Crewe?” by placing a cross (X)
in the box opposite the option you are voting for
- Step Two: Put your voting paper into the enclosed prepaid
envelope
- Step Three: Return the prepaid envelope so it
is received no later than 5pm on 29th February
2012
The results of this ballot and a draft recommendation for
governance in Crewe will be communicated in the local media and on
this website from April 2012.
