If any changes occur which may affect your Council Tax
liability, you are required by law to inform the Council within 21
days of the changes occurring.

If you are unsure which Council covers the area you are moving
into, this can be found by using the postcode or address details at
the Valuation
Office Agency.
Changes In Your Household or Property
The Council awards Discounts, Exemptions
and Reductions against Council Tax liability. You are legally
required to inform us if there is any change in your household or
property that may affect your claim.
If you are claiming Council Tax or Housing benefit and your
circumstances change you will need to inform
our Benefits Section.
Examples of changes in circumstances and the information we
need
- Number in the Household – if individuals are
leaving or joining your household give full names, the exact date
of the change and any previous/forwarding address(es),
- Change of Name – if there is a name change
(through marriage etc.) give the previous name and the exact date
of the change
- Full-time Education – if members of your
household starting or finish full-time education give full names
and the exact date of the change. Where someone is starting
full-time education, you will be required to provide a copy of the
relevant student certificate,
- Exemption or Discount Entitlement - if
there are changes that affect qualification for discount or
exemption from Council Tax give full details of the change and the
exact date of the change,
- Empty Property Ownership Change – if the empty
property changes ownership give the exact date on which ownership
changed and full details of the previous and new owners,
- Death - give full details of the deceased
person, the property affected, the date on which Grant of Probate
or Letters of Administration was made, the names and addresses of
all the executors to the estate, the date on which ownership of the
property was transferred over to the beneficiaries together with
their names & addresses, details of any solicitors assisting in
the administration of the estate and whether the property is
furnished or unfurnished.
