Knutsford residents urged to comment on delivery of Local Plan site

Residents will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed use of council-owned land in Knutsford as access to a site earmarked for housing.
In October, Cheshire East Council’s cabinet agreed to advertise the potential loss of open space to enable developer Dewscope, subject to planning, to progress its plans to deliver about 225 homes and enhance the overall provision and quality of public open space in the locality.
The housing site has been allocated within the Cheshire East Local Plan and is one of a number of sites across the borough, where much-needed new homes could be built to meet the council’s housing target.
As the scheme could entail the loss of open space, the council is inviting comments or objections, which must be lodged with the council by December 15, 2017.
The council will issue public notices relating to open space at Longridge under Section 123 of the Local Government Act 1972 on November 23.
Should the council agree to the disposal of open space following this consultation, the developer would then be required to submit a planning application for consideration as this is a separate process.
It is believed that the proposed housing scheme could help to contribute to the regeneration of the Longridge estate and substantially increase the amount of open space in the area for the benefit of the people of Knutsford.
Any loss of public open space could be offset by the creation of about 20 acres of new public open space within the proposed residential development scheme.
The potential development site has been allocated within the Cheshire East Local Plan Strategy and is one of a number of sites across the borough where much-needed new homes could be built in order that the council can meet its housing target.
