Going the distance – leisure centres support Sport Relief
February 6, 2012
Cheshire East Council is once again preparing to support this
year’s Sport Relief campaign.
The charity looks to raise money for Comic Relief via various
sporting challenges – including the popular Sport Relief Mile.
Macclesfield Leisure Centre and the Cumberland Arena in Crewe will
host the challenge on Sunday March 25.
Last year, the leisure development team raised more than
£12,000.
To support those taking part in this year’s challenge, Cheshire
East Council is also offering a four-week pre-Sport Relief fitness
camp. The course is free and available to everyone but people must
book in advance. It starts at the end of this month.
Cheshire East Council is also looking for volunteers to help out
on Sunday, March 25.
Cheshire East Councillor Rod Menlove, Cabinet member with
responsibility for environmental services, said: “Anyone of any age
and ability can take part in Sport Relief. Last year, we saw work
colleagues, families of all ages and even parents with prams take
to the athletics track to raise money. The important part of Sport
Relief is that it raises much-needed cash for people here in
Cheshire East, as well as abroad.
“The boot camp is a must for anyone planning to take part this
year. You never know, it could be the start of a new fitness
regime. Whether people decide to run one mile, three or even six,
our leisure development team will be on hand to help everyone
prepare properly.”
