Cheshire East Mourns Loss Of Councillor Liz Gilliland

It is with great sadness and regret that today we announce
Councillor Liz Gilliland has passed away. The Conservative
councillor for Alderley had been ill for some time.She died at East
Cheshire Hospice, in Millbank Drive, Macclesfield, early on
Wednesday, July 7.
Cheshire East Council Leader Councillor Wesley Fitzgerald paid
tribute to Cllr Gilliland.
He said: “It is with great sadness that I must announce the death
of Councillor Elizabeth Gilliland who passed away in the early
hours of this morning at East Cheshire Hospice.
“Cllr Gilliland represented the Alderley Ward and was a former
member of Macclesfield Borough Council. She was first elected
in May 1999.
“Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult
time.”
Cllr Gilliland lived in Henbury, Macclesfield. She was
vice-chairman of Cheshire East Council’s environment and prosperity
scrutiny committee, as well as a member of the authority’s
sustainable communities scrutiny committee and licensing and
northern planning committees.
The funeral will be at St Thomas’s Church, in Henbury,
Macclesfield, on Wednesday, July 14, at 2pm. All are welcome. It
will be followed by a private committal ceremony at Macclesfield
Crematorium.
