and commentary, building up to a comprehensive set of
statistics about Cheshire East. Where appropriate, statistics are

Stats of the Month
Population
Mid-Year Estimates suggest that the 2010 population in Cheshire
East was 363,800, of whom 184,900 (50.8%) were females with 178,900
(49.2%) males. This was an increase from 362,700 in 2009, of
whom 184,400 (50.9%) were females and 178,200 (49.1%) males.
Unemployment
Unemployment figures were released on 14th March, and they show
that the claimant count rate in Cheshire East for January
2012 was 2.8%.
- This is higher than the 2.7% reported in January 2012 and
the 2.6% in December 2011.
- The CE rate is lower than the Great Britain rate of 4.1% and
the North West rate of 4.7%
- The LSOA with the lowest claimant count is Chelford &
Alderley Edge L2 (0.4%)
- The LSOA with the highest claimant count is Alexandra L1
(12.4%)
- The MSOA with the lowest claimant count is Macclesfield Town
Tytherington (0.9%)
- The MSOA with the highest claimant count is West Coppenhall
& Grosvenor (7.9%)
- There are now 6,280 claimants in Cheshire East
- The claimant count rate for 16-24 year olds is nearly double
the overall rate at 5.1% (1,820 people)
- For 25-49 year olds the rate is virtually the same as the
overall rate at 2.8% (3,305 people)
- For the 50+ age group the rate is barely half the overall rate
at 1.5% (1,135 people)
- Nearly half of claimants had been claiming for less than 6
months (3,030 people)
- 36% had been claiming for between 6 and 12 months (2,260
people)
- 16% had been claiming for more than 12 months (980 people)
House prices
There was no change in the average house price in England &
Wales from November to December 2011, remaining just below
£160,400. However, this was a 1.3% fall from December 2010 when the
average price was slightly over £162,500.
For Cheshire East, prices continued to fall,
with the December 2011 average of just over £150,500 being 0.2%
lower than in November 2011 and 2.8% lower than in December
2010. Indeed the average price in December 2011 was lower
than in December
2004.
The North-West of England did see a rise from
November 2011. The increase, of 1.5%, was the largest of any
region and took the average price of houses to a little over
£113,200. However, prices were 3.4% lower than in December
2010, the largest fall across England and Wales, and were lower
than in any other region apart from the North-East.
Across England & Wales, price falls from December 2010 to
December 2011 were smallest in semi-detached houses and largest in
detached and terraced properties.
Nationally, sales fell by 6% between October 2010 and
October 2011.
