Privately Rented Homes
If you rent your home from a private landlord (that is, not a
housing association) and you are unhappy with the state of the
property, the Private Sector Housing team can offer:
- advice about how to resolve the issues with your landlord
- a home visit to carry out an inspection and rate any hazards
using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System
- liaison with your landlord to get the repairs carried out
- enforcement action under the Housing Act 2004.
Before you request a visit we expect you to have already
contacted your landlord (or their agent) to report the repairs and
given them opportunity to put things right. If you are not
satisfied with their response and you would like an officer to
visit to carry out an inspection, please download and complete the
request for inspection
form (PDF, 100KB) and return it to us at the address
on the form.
More information about getting repairs carried out to your
property is available on the
Shelter website.
