The Community Safety Development Team
We deliver a wide range of services that contribute directly or
indirectly to making communities safer and ensure that community
safety is taken into account in all aspects of service
delivery.
The Council has a dedicated Community Safety team, whose
role is to ensure that the Council meets its statutory
responsibilities under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 through
promoting Community Safety and reducing the fear of crime.
The priorities of the Community Safety Development Team are;
- Reduce crime
- Reduce repeat victims of crime and anti social behaviour
- Crime Prevention
- Engage with local communities on issues relating to crime and
disorder
Safer Cheshire East
Partnership have a responsibility to produce an audit of
crime and disorder in their area and to consult widely with the
public in order to shape the production of a strategy that provides
the framework of how agencies will work together to reduce crime
and disorder and increase public reassurance.
The common themes that all partnerships have agreed to
tackle include:
- Crime Prevention
- Anti Social Behaviour including Youth Nuisance
- Domestic Abuse / Individuals at risk
- Reduce re-offending
- Road Safety
StreetSafe
StreetSafe is a multi-agency project lead by
Cheshire East Council Community Safety Team. The StreetSafe’s
objectives are to create communities that are:
- Safer
- Stronger
- Cleaner
- Greener
Street/s are identified through local
community intelligence, Police statistics and Partner
Agencies. Analysis identifies issues related to the area i.e.
anti social behaviour, neighbour disputes, fly-tipping, etc.
Representatives from agencies such as Cheshire Police, Safer
Cheshire East Partnership, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service,
Cheshire East Borough Council, Registered Social Landlords and
local Councillors and community volunteers visit homes in teams of
two or three to talk to residents.
Pairings of Police and partner, or Fire &
Rescue and partner will ensure we have a consistently reassuring
uniformed partnership approach to all our house-to-house
visits. Each pair will visit predetermined addresses armed
with a ‘community bag’ of freebies and useful information and a
questionnaire which the StreetSafe Team would like to complete with
residents. Householders are then given the opportunity to
discuss community concerns in private in the sure knowledge that
their concerns will be relayed back to the relevant agency for
further investigation and action.
The StreetSafe Team discuss with residents any
fears or problems they may have which can be dealt with using a
Partnership approach. These could include such issues as
anti-social behaviour, littering, dog fouling, fly tipping,
graffiti, road safety, criminal damage, recycling, home security
and fire safety, to name but a few.
8 StreetSafe initiatives have been conducted
since January 2011. Actions have included Home Safety
Assessments, Crime Reduction Advisor visits and the successful
installation of Alley gates due to issues relating to Anti-Social
Behaviour.
