Sandbach Cemetery
Sandbach Cemetery is located approximately half a mile from
the Town Centre and covers 5.62 acres of land.
Sandbach Cemetery is the first in the County to be awarded with
the Green Flag award that recognises and rewards the best green
spaces in the country. It provides a benchmark against which parks
and green spaces are measured and encourages others to achieve
high environmental standards.
Sandbach Cemetery was opened in 1935 and first interment took
place on the 30 March 1935. On average between 70 and 80
interments take place in Sandbach Cemetery each year. The
cemetery provides the following sections:
- Fully consecrated with the rites of the Church of England
- Interdenominational
- Roman Catholic
- Full Memorial
- Children’s Section
- Garden of Remembrance
- Garden of Rest
- Butterfly garden

The butterfly garden was opened on the 15 June 2011. The
garden consists of a semi-circular lawned area that is bordered on
one side by a colourful range of plants that have been specifically
chosen to attract butterflies, moths, bees and other insects.
Bereaved families are able to inter their loved ones’ cremated
remains and place a commemorative nameplate on one
of the sandstone kerbstones that border the garden. Three
granite benches engraved with butterflies offer visitors a
place to sit in quiet reflection in peaceful and tranquil
surroundings.
Birds are encouraged into the Cemetery by the siting of
bird boxes with commemorative name plates.
