Meadow Brook, Crewe
Meadow Brook is a new cemetery on
former farming land off Pyms Lane. The site has access off Minshull
New Road, and has an area of 5.34 hectares and will provide
sufficient burial space for the Crewe area for the next 75
years.
It has been named ‘Meadow Brook Cemetery’
following a competition run via a local newspaper for members
of the public to suggest a name.
The cemetery has been designed as a
peaceful place where families can go to reflect and pay their
respects. Hawthorn hedges have been retained and planted, and a
viewing area to watch birds is planned. There are also bulrushes,
water lilies and a special water treating reed bed. Its setting
means it is a wildlife haven for plants and animals.
The centre piece for the cemetery is a rock
made from sandstone containing the inspirational words of the
moving poem Autumn Rain. Another feature of the site is a “compass”
rose which has been erected at low level to allow easy access to
visitors in wheelchairs. The compass points to different directions
reflecting the different stages of life.
