Bereavement Services
Bereavement Services provide burial, cremation,
memorial and bereavement support services.
The Cemeteries are places of quiet reflection,
not only where people can remember their loved ones, but also
somewhere they can visit to experience the tranquillity of
peaceful surroundings. Cemeteries also offer a wealth of
social history and wildlife.
Losing a loved one presents many challenges,
and the Bereavement Services staff can give helpful advice and
guidance about all aspects of funerals and memorials.
The Service offers useful advice and support to not only the
bereaved, but to those who are supporting a bereaved
person. We give general information on registration of a
death, useful contacts, and facilities offered by Cheshire East
Council. We provide a caring, sensitive and high quality
service for people at a difficult time in their lives. We
welcome the opportunity to provide information and endeavour to
provide a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere at the Cemeteries and
Crematoria.
The Council administers Crematoria at
Crewe and Macclesfield along with our eleven
Cemeteries - Alderley Edge, Congleton, Coppenhall, Crewe,
Knutsford, Meadow Brook, Macclesfield, Nantwich, Sandbach,
Weston and Wilmslow.
The Council is a member of the Federation of
British Cremation Authorities and complies with the strict Code of
Practice, which determines the necessary high standards of
cremation. It is also a member of the Institute of Cemeteries
and Crematorium Management.
Tree of Light - Poem
Christmas comes but
once a year
A time for happiness and good cheer
Today we all might shed a tear
As we gather to remember those not here
Days, weeks and months go by
It can be hard not to cry
Just to have our life as we knew
And the loving thoughts we have of you
Our stars are placed on the tree of
light
Within our hearts shine so bright
Memories of loved ones out of sight
Are in our thoughts and prayers tonight
We will keep our memories so precious and
dear
And recall them throughout the coming year
We’ll celebrate again in 12 months hence
Together remembering their life’s absence

Equality Impact Assessment
The Council recognises that promoting equality
and inclusion will improve public services for everyone. Our aim
therefore, is to make equality an integral part of the way the
Council works by putting it at the centre of everything it
does.
Please find below the initial screening for
the equality impact assessment which has been used in respect of
the proposed increase in Bereavement Services Fees and
Charges. The form has been revised to bring it into line with
the nine protected characteristics identified in the Equalities Act
2010 and additional characteristics identified in the Council’s
Single Equalities and Inclusion Scheme. The screening shows
that a full impact assessment is not required.
