Local Housing Allowance
What is Local Housing Allowance?
Local Housing Allowance (LHA) allows us to work out the
amount of rent we should use when calculating how much Housing
Benefit you are entitled to. It is a way of deciding the
maximum amount of Housing Benefit you could receive based on the
size of your household and where your property is
located.
How much benefit you are entitled to will still depend on your
income and savings and the other people who live with you and proof
of a valid tenancy agreement.
LHA
will make it
easier for you to decide in advance how much rent might be covered
by Housing Benefit.
April 1st 2012 Changes
From 1st April 2012 the LHA rates will be frozen for the
next 52 weeks, this means there will be no changes to the
rates that have been set for this month. The same rates will
be used throughout the year, to calculate Housing Benefit
Entitlment, up to 1 April 2013.
You can use the Local Housing Allowance
Calculator (MS Excel, 4.9MB) to work out the amount
of rent we could use based on the size of your household and where
your property is located.
