Licensing Committees
The Licensing Committee and the Licensing Sub-Committe deal
with policy issues relating to the Council's activities as
Licensing Authority and conduct hearings on individual
applications.
The Committees also hear appeals against any decisions in
relation to the grant, renewal, transfer, variation, refusal or
suspension of licences in accordance with the Council’s
licensing procedure.
Licensing Representation
The Licensing Act 2003 plays an important role in the prevention
of crime, disorder and public nuisance.
The Act enables residents and businesses in the vicinity of the
premises ("interested parties") and "responsible authorities" such
as the police, fire authorities, health and safety and
environmental health authorities to make relevant representations
about any application for new or for variations to licences.
In addition, responsible authorities and interested parties will
have the power to apply to the licensing authority for a review of
an existing licence. This gives the local community a greater say
than ever before in licensing decisions.
The representation must be received by the Council within 21
days of the date of the application. Please note that the law
requires that if you make relevant representations they will be
passed on to the applicant who may wish to contact you. If you feel
uncomfortable about this it is possible to approach others, for
example the Police, and ask them to make representation on your
behalf.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport website
gives further information on making a representation under the
Act.
