Additional Rate Relief for Small Businesses
In his Autumn Statement on 29 November 2011, the Chancellor
announced that there will be a further six month extension to
the temporary increase in the level of Small Business Rate
Relief.
The reduced rates were due to end on 30
September 2012 but will now be extended until 31 March 2013.
Eligible ratepayers will pay no rates on
properties with rateable values of up to £6,000 with a tapered
relief of between 100% and 0% for properties with
rateable values between £6,001 and £11,999.
Your relief entitlement for 2012-2013 will show
on your annual rates bill, which will be issued in March 2012.
Additionally any occupied property where the
rateable value is £17,999 or below, where the ratepayer is not in
receipt of mandatory rate relief, will have the rates bill
calculated using the lower Small Business Rate Relief
Multiplier.
