Cheshire East is a predominantly rural Borough with a
population of 363,800 and an area of 116,638 hectares. It is
bounded by Cheshire West and Chester to the West, by Manchester to
the North and Stoke-on-Trent to the South.
It is made up of the railway town of Crewe, the old
mill towns of Macclesfield, Bollington and Congleton and
the market towns of Nantwich, Knutsford and Sandbach, as well
as Middlewich, Wilmslow, and smaller settlements such as Poynton,
Alderley Edge, Holmes Chapel and Prestbury.
The northern part of Cheshire East, comprising Wilmslow,
Alderley Edge, Knutsford and Poynton, lies within the North
Cheshire Green Belt and adjoins the Peak District National Park to
the east and the Manchester conurbation to the north.
