Cheshire East logo choices

Some 2,000 online questionnaires have so far been completed  by members of the public, giving their views on a choice of three logos for the new Cheshire East Council.

The trio were created by in-house graphic designers at the councils involved in creating Cheshire East – Congleton, Crewe & Nantwich and Macclesfield Boroughs and Cheshire County Council. The logos are “Rising Sun”, “Hills & Water”, and “Wheatsheaf”.

The public was invited to give its views on the choice of logos as part of a month-long process from 24 July. Focus groups run by Cheshire County Council have been held in Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe to find out the views of residents, and everyone is invited to take part in the easy questionnaire.

Councillor Dave Brown, Cabinet Member for Performance and Capacity, says: "We've three very different designs and we'd like to hear the views of people who live or work in East Cheshire. The online questionnaire poses various questions but only takes a few minutes. We'll announce the winning logo in September."

Take part in the online Cheshire East Branding Survey. The closing date for comments is Friday 22 August.

 NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE APPOINTED Minimize

Council Leader Wesley Fitzgerald and new Chief Executive Erika WenzelCheshire East’s newly-appointed chief executive Erika Wenzel has pledged to “get out and about” around the wards which make up the new territory.

Erika, 48, will join Cheshire East after 19 years at Tameside Borough Council, the last four of which have been as Executive Director (Neighbourhood and Community Services). The appointment of the mother of one, who lives in Wilmslow, was  ratified by councillors on Wednesday 30 July.

Addressing the second full council meeting of the shadow authority at Municipal Buildings, Crewe, Erika said: “Cheshire East is a wonderful place  and this will be an exciting and challenging role. I’m thrilled to be part of this at the very beginning and not part-way through.

“I am looking forward to working with everyone – staff, councillors and partners – and to getting out and about in the wards to get a feel of the place, not be stuck behind a desk.”

Initially from a finance background, she has held a variety of posts, including Benefits Manager, Chief Revenues Officer, Assistant Director of Finance,  and Head of Exchequer & Community Services in Tameside, prior to which she worked for Stockport Borough Council.

Council Leader Wesley Fitzgerald says: “After two days of intense assessment,  I have complete confidence that the final selection of Erika Wenzel will provide Cheshire East with a person with the right experience and the personal attributes to form this Council,  and provide high-standard services for everyone who lives or works in the new Cheshire East.

“This is a unique challenge - the setting-up of a council and then the efficient launch of services from  1 April 2009. Erika Wenzel is exactly the right person to work with me as Leader and all Members to turn this challenge into a great success."

Of her appointment, Erika says: “It is an honour and a privilege to be part of the newly-formed Cheshire East unitary Council in what promises to be exciting times. The area certainly has a bright future ahead and I am looking forward to being part of shaping that future.

“Obviously, it goes without saying, that I will miss Tameside and all the staff I have worked with over the years terribly. It was always going to be hard leaving such a high-performing authority - a fact I will always be immensely proud of - but this was too good an opportunity to turn down.”
